Walls Over 4 Feet
Central TX
Service Area
Every new retaining wall we install is engineered for your specific site — soil type, slope, drainage path, and load requirements. We handle everything from the first survey stake to the final cap course.
How It Works
From site
to stone.
Site Evaluation
We visit your property with a laser level, take elevation measurements, assess slope and soil conditions, and photograph the site. This is the foundation of an accurate estimate — no ballpark figures.
Engineering & Design
For walls over four feet, a licensed structural engineer produces stamped drawings specifying drainage, geogrid embedment intervals, base course, and cap. We share these drawings with you before any work begins.
Permitting
We coordinate submittals with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Every city and county in Central Texas has different thresholds — we know them and navigate the process for you.
Material Staging
Quarry-direct Texas limestone or concrete block, delivered to your site on our flatbed fleet and staged for efficient installation sequence. No waiting on distributor inventory.
Wall Construction
Our specialist crew handles excavation, compacted base course, drainage stone column, drain pipe installation, geotextile fabric, geogrid placement at engineered intervals, block setting, and cap course.
Final Grade & Cleanup
Backfill compacted in 6"–8" lifts — never with native Blackland Prairie clay. Site graded to drain away from the retained slope. Full cleanup before we leave.

We come to you first. On-site evaluation — laser-level elevation checks, soil assessment, no-surprise quote.
Standard Spec

Every Austin Block Co installation is built to documented specifications. These components are standard — not upsells.
Base Preparation
Compacted #57 crushed rock
Geotextile-wrapped, full wall footprint width — the foundation everything else depends on
Drainage Column
12" minimum #57 zone
Behind full wall face, geofabric-separated from native clay to prevent hydrostatic pressure buildup
Drain Pipe
4" sleeved HDPE
Perforated pipe to daylight or stub-out at wall toe — removes water before it becomes pressure
Geogrid Reinforcement
High-tensile polymer
Required above four feet — engineered embedment intervals per stamped drawings
Backfill
Granular material only
Compacted in 6"–8" lifts, never with native Blackland Prairie clay

Stamped above 4 feet
Permitted per local AHJ — drawings shared with the owner before construction begins
Common Questions
Answered.
What is included in your installation service?
+
Our installation service is end-to-end: site evaluation, structural engineering, permit coordination, material supply and staging, excavation, drainage column, geogrid placement, block setting, and final site cleanup. One contractor from first block to final grade.
How long does installation take?
+
Timeline varies by wall length, height, and permit requirements. A residential wall of 50–100 linear feet typically takes 3–7 days of active construction once permits are approved and materials are staged. Permitting for walls over four feet adds 2–6 weeks depending on the local AHJ.
Do I need engineering for my wall?
+
In most Central Texas jurisdictions, walls over four feet from footing bottom to wall top require stamped engineering and a permit. We handle both — and we share the drawings with you before construction begins.
What materials do you use?
+
Primarily quarry-direct Texas limestone in a variety of colors and profiles, and structural concrete block. We recommend the right material for your application based on site conditions, budget, and aesthetic goals.
Ready when you are.
